What Is BMI?

Body Mass Index (or BMI) relates height and weight to indicate the degree of body fat. It is a better predictor of heath risk than weight alone. This formula is most accurate for adults who are not body builders, competitive athletes, and pregnant or breastfeeding women. BMI is determined by calculating the weight in kilograms divided by the height in meters squared.

BMI = (weight in kilograms) / (height in meters)2
or
BMI = (weight in pounds) / (height in inches)2 x 703
